About the Program
The Casual Care program offers child care to the community which promotes child growth and development and gives parents the opportunity to have a break from the job of parenting, attend appointments, complete errands, volunteer within the MFRC, or simply have time to relax. Military families are given priority but we welcome other Defence Team families as space is available.
Available for children from birth to 12 years of age, the Casual Care program provides children with opportunities to interact with their peers while expanding their abilities in all areas of development. The Child Care Workers have various levels of education and experience with all ages of children and provide a wide range of activities for children to enjoy. Activities involving art, language, fine and gross motor skills, and cognitive, social, and emotional development are available in rooms with toys and equipment appropriate to their ages.

Casual Care Pass
Many people have found that the Casual Care Pass to be very convenient. It is a five session prepaid pass that you can use at any time (subject to space availability).
Registration Process
Space is limited and based on availability on a first-registered basis. Registration opens eight weeks in advance and deadline is the day prior to the session by 12:00 noon. Register in-person at the MFRC, or call (780) 973-4011 Ext. 6300 VISA and MasterCard accepted by phone; cash, cheque, debit, MasterCard, & VISA accepted in-person.
Casual Care Nursery
We have a separate Casual Care Nursery available at the MFRC to provide care only to babies under the age of 18 months. The room is across the hall from the current Casual Care room and, thanks to a generous donation from 15 Service Battalion, has furniture and equipment specifically for this young age group. The room will be far quieter than the happily rambunctious current Casual Care room so this means that the babies will be less likely to cry and, therefore, we will be able to have them attend in the afternoons as well. We have a playpen and 2 cribs for them to sleep in whenever they need it. The room is bright and sunny and will be a wonderful environment for the babies to play in.
The Casual Care Nursery will be open weekdays the same days and times as the Casual Care program. In order to accommodate as many babies as possible however, we will limit their attendance to 3 hour sessions, either morning (9am to noon) or afternoon (noon to 3pm), on Tuesdays and Fridays. On Wednesdays, the babies may attend from 9am until 3pm. As the room only has space for 3 babies at any one time, we are hoping these options will meet the needs of the community as it will almost double the number of babies we can provide care to each week.
The "Care Free" Program
The "Care Free Program" is for families with an infant. It provides one free casual care session for all children in the family until the infant's first birthday.
Deployment Childcare
Available specifically for families of CF members deployed for more than 4 weeks, for up to 12 hours a month.
