GMFRC Full Day Casual Childcare Centre
The GMFRC is proud to announce the expansion of our Licensed Casual Childcare Centre. The Casual Childcare Centre now offers Full Day Casual Childcare over the lunch hour. Our program is divided into two programs; one for infants ages 3 to 17 months and a multi-aged program for children ages 18 months to 12 years.
This new and exciting full day program will offer two snacks and a hot lunch. Our menu was developed in collaboration with Nova Scotia’s Public Health Nutritionist and meets the 2/3 daily nutritional requirements set out by the Canada’s Food Guide. Our menu will be posted on the Parent Information Board.
Our focus is to develop an environment in which children of military families are respected, accepted, and allowed to develop their potential for growth. Our inclusive childcare centre has been designed to encourage active participation. Children will explore, create, question, and share experiences in order to enhance physical, social, emotional, language, and intellectual growth. We will provide your child with a safe, warm, and loving environment in which to play and learn. To this end, we work as a partner with military families, continually recognizing the necessity of consistent and positive communication. The philosophy of the Centre is to provide your child with a positive learning environment, which enhances his/her level of development.
Our Goal
The aim of our Full Day Casual Childcare Service is to:
- Provide casual affordable, flexible, and quality care to military families.
- Provide a service to parents so that they may run errands, attend appointments, participate in community activities, or enjoy some free time.
- Accommodate the GMFRC's Emergency Childcare Service.
Support volunteers of the GMFRC.
- Provide a safe and happy atmosphere for children to learn and play.
Curriculum Statement
At the GMFRC Full Day Casual Childcare Centre the emergent curriculum includes a combination of monthly themes. An emergent curriculum is a process that develops over time, in response to the interests of the children. Children will explore and learn from their environment. The Early Childhood Educators design experiences and activities that develop and extend each child’s abilities in all areas of development, language and literacy, social and interpersonal relationships, creativity, problem solving, and reasoning skills, fine and gross motor skills.
Programming is a combination of planned and spontaneous activities, some which are teacher directed and some that are child directed.
The daily program plans will be posted on our Parent Information Board located in the centre.

Bookings
Parents are encouraged to pre-book spaces a minimum of 24 hours in advance. We will also accept pre-booking spaces one month at a time, but please remember that this service is casual and should not replace your full-time childcare arrangements. This is a very popular service and is booked on a first come, first served basis.
Please be aware that this is Casual Childcare, and the program can be subjected to unforeseen closures.
If all spaces are booked each month, the GMFRC reserves the right to place a limit on the amount of time parents can pre-book in a month.
