Family Separation and Reunion

Family support will be offered when a CF member, Reservist or civilian is required to spend "time away from home" for a period of 30 days or more including: temporary duty, special tasking, field exercises, restricted postings, course or overseas operations.

If you are a spouse, child, parent or other family member who will be experiencing separation of a loved one for more than 30 days please drop by the Kingston Military Family Resource Centre and let us know. When you register with the KMFRC we will ensure that you and your family stay connected and informed of programs and services offered. The KMFRC provides resources and support that meet families needs prior to, during and after separation. Deployment Contact Sheet (pdf)

Video Conference Service
The KMFRC offers deployed families a great way to keep connected through the use of a video-conference system. You can see and talk to your loved one serving in one of several locations in Afghanistan without the delay
experienced on telephone lines or webcams. Sessions typically last 20 minutes and are free of charge. Bookings must be made by the deployed member.

Spousal Battlemind
This reunification briefing is available for military spouses with a loved one returning from Afghanistan. This program looks at the challenges of a military member coming home and offers some insight and strategies to ease the transition. If interested please contact Lori Richardson or Dana Pardy to book an appointment.

Paws for Deployment
A group of local residents have pioneered a program called Paws for Deployment and have partnered with Barriefield Animal Hospital. This is the only program of its kind in Canada and it gives a temporary home to animals while their owners are gone, easing the stress of separation anxiety. No longer will troops have to struggle with tough decisions about what to do with their pets. While they're away, Barriefield Animal Hospital staff and local volunteers will make sure these animals are loved and cared for. They offer long-term boarding, weekend fostering and full time fostering depending on the pet’s needs. For more information contact Barriefield Animal Hospital
