This service offers financial assistance by paying for up to a maximum of 72 hours of respite child care, subject to approval on a case-by-case basis. This child care is put in as required to meet the family’s individual needs and does not have to be a continuous 72 hours.
The following are the circumstances considered to access Respite Child Care: (DMFS Guidelines)
- When there is a need for respite child care in or out of the child’s home due to the total family situation, including the CF member’s work commitments. In such cases the up to 72 hours of free care need not be continuous. Such cases should only be undertaken on the advice of a medical or social services professional, eg, physician, public health nurse, social worker, chaplain, psychologist, etc.
- When there are circumstances not covered in the above and respite child care is believed to be the solution to the problem. Such cases must be approved by the C/MFRC Executive Director/Director and by a DMFS staff member.
