Mainland BC MFRC’s area of responsibility spans the whole province, minus Vancouver Island. This means that we are providing support to families in over 40 communities throughout the province. We identify military families living as far as Prince George to Vancouver, which is a 10 hour drive away. Although the majority of Canadian Forces members in Mainland BC are army and are Reservist, our MFRC provides services to ALL military families, whether army, navy, air force, Regular Force or Reservist.
The largest Reserve unit in mainland BC is 39 Canadian Brigade Group (39 CBG). It consists of 14 Army Reserve units located throughout the province and a headquarters located in Vancouver. The major roles of the Army Reserve are to provide a national mobilization base, to augment the Regular Force with trained and motivated soldiers for exercises and operational deployments, and to maintain a visible military presence in local communities. We have an office located at 39 CBG. (Source: Canadian Forces website).
The Area Support Unit (ASU) Chilliwack mission is to support assigned units on mainland British Columbia. These assigned units are the ASU dependencies and support is provided with a view to permitting these dependencies to complete their mandated activities. ASU has the same scope as a major support base, but the depth is extremely limited. We have another office located at ASU Chilliwack. (Source: Canadian Forces website).
Who are the faces of the MFSP in your community? As part of our celebration of the Program’s 20th anniversary, Director Military Family Services (DMFS) would like to share stories from the families and service providers who’ve been involved with the MFSP over the last 20 years.
