This confidential counselling service provided by Health Canada helps Canadian Forces members and their families who have personal concerns that affect their wellbeing and/or work performance. If long-term help or specialized help is required, a referral can be made.

Family Information Line (FIL)
This toll-free bilingual service provides timely and accurate information to families of deployed Canadian Forces personnel. The line consists of an automated mailbox system accessible to families or personnel updating their message box. Families can also check on the status of flights carrying their deployed CF members.

Centre for the Support of Injured and Ill Members and Their Families
This centre ensures the provision of support services to all military members who were injured, medically released, or became ill while serving, and also supports their families. Their services include a help line, referral programs, an advocacy team, disability benefits specialists, and financial assistance.

Department of National Defence Post-Deployment Clinics
These clinics will evaluate veterans (serving or retired) of any Canadian deployment who feel they have a medical problem that may be a result of their deployment, and whose diagnosis is not yet clear.

Operational Stress Injury Social Support Program
This program offers information and support for Canadian Forces members and veterans who have served, and their friends and families. They specialize in helping with operational stress injuries that are invisible.

Recognizing Signs of Depression
No one takes a giant leap into depression—it is more of a slowly cumulating process. It’s important to be able to recognize the signs of depression in yourself and your family members so that you can take positive action.
Signs of Depression:
- Altered eating patterns
- Quicker temper
- Constantly watching television and using the internet
- Altered sleeping patterns
- Withdrawing from people
- Using alcohol or other substances to cope
- Feeling nervous or anxious
