Emergency Childcare

Emergency Child Care (ECC)
Emergency Child Care is there for Canadian Forces families when an unexpected, emergency event arises that prevents the parent or usual caregiver from providing care. Some examples are the sudden illness of a parent or a sudden deployment that does not allow the family sufficient time to implement their regular Family Care Plan.

ECC Guidelines
ECC is available to eligible Canadian Forces families, whether a member is deployed or not, at all times, day or night.

Emergencies do not include recurring events during the course of a year.

Emergency situations are expected to be resolved within a 24- to 72-hour period.

All Canadian Forces Families should have a regular Family Care Plan (FCP) that provides for the care of their family.

To access the Emergency Child Care service, you will need to contact our Emergency Child Care Coordinator by telephone.

Who will look after my children?
A professional Agency will be contacted on your behalf, and this agency will provide us with qualified Home Support Workers and Home Sitters to meet your emergency requirements.

What is the difference between Emergency Child Care and Emergency Respite Child Care?
Emergency Child Care is available to all Canadian Forces Families (whether deployed or not) for an acute period of time when an emergency situation arises. An emergency is defined as an unexpected, short-term change of circumstances that immediately affects the family’s ability to provide child care.

Deployment Respite Child Care and Emergency Respite Child Care, on the other hand, are available only to families of deployed personnel and is there to help ease the particular stress that comes with the absence of a spouse or caregiving partner due to deployment.
