We know that deployment makes parenting more challenging. All families of deployed military members are eligible to receive a few hours of free, regular Respite Child Care per month (up to $50.00 per month). In addition, Emergency Respite Child Care may be available for extended periods, depending on the family’s circumstances.
Guidelines
Respite Child Care (up to $50.00 per month) is available to all families of deployed Canadian Forces members. Emergency Respite Child Care for up to 72 hours (need not be continuous) is available to Canadian Forces families when it has been determined that a period of respite is absolutely essential for the family’s continued health and wellbeing.
Families in need of ongoing Emergency Respite Child Care (e.g., long-term physical and/or mental disability) are required to develop an updated Family Care Plan.

What is the difference between Emergency Child Care and Emergency Respite Child Care?
Emergency Child Care is available to all Canadian Forces families (whether deployed or not) for an acute period of time when an emergency situation arises. An emergency is defined as an unexpected, short-term change of circumstances that immediately affects the family’s ability to provide child care.
Emergency Respite Child Care, on the other hand, is available only to families of deployed personnel and is there to help ease the particular stress that comes with the absence of a spouse or caregiving partner due to deployment.
