Children with Special Needs

Although every special-needs child is different and every family is unique, there are some common concerns that link families of challenged individuals.

The Petawawa Military Family Resource Centre (PMFRC) supports families with special needs through The Navigator Program, a Military Family Resource Program that introduces families with special responsibilities to each other, presents them with various resources in their surrounding communities, and provides them with educational workshops.

The Navigator Program

The Navigator Program will provide families with an opportunity to learn from others who are in similar circumstances, to meet experts in the field, and to access the resources in their communities that will equip them to face their unique challenges.

Navigator Web Tools

Military families who have a child with special needs or who provide care for a family member with complex health concerns can now turn to the Internet to get help with transitioning their family to a new community and/or managing during a military deployment.

Parents as Partners

Parents as Partners is a workshop offered by Alison Morse of the Ontario Association Of Families With Children With Communication Disorders (OAFCCD). This parent workshop helps families of children with special needs make a smooth transition from preschool programs to junior or senior kindergarten.
