The Petawawa Military Family Resource Centre (PMFRC)’s Private Home Day Care (PHDC) is a community-based child care program designed to match suitable caregivers with children in need of daily care while their parents are at work. Children are placed in caregivers’ homes within our community.
The PMFRC’s Private Home Day Care service is licensed by the Ministry of Children and Youth, and all caregiving homes are carefully screened and regularly inspected.
PHDC at a Glance
- This service is available to military and civilian families in the community.
- We are licensed under the Day Nurseries Act of Ontario. This licensing promotes the maintenance of health and safety standards.
- We can arrange care for children six weeks through twelve years of age, Monday through Friday, for a maximum of nine hours per day.
- We require a minimum commitment of three half days per week or a minimum of three categories of care per week per child.

How to Register Your Child for PHDC
1.The first step in registering your child in our PHDC program is to take a look at the registration documents.
2. Contact our PHDC Office to schedule an intake appointment.

3. Complete the required paperwork, provide us with your child’s immunization records, and pay the $25 registration fee.
4.The PHDC Office will release the names of two or more PHDC caregivers who have space for your child/ren. Then you’ll have the opportunity to interview the caregivers and make your child care selection.

Fee Subsidies
All families that are interested in applying for a fee subsidy are asked to complete a Fee Subsidy Application Form.
Specifics of Child Care Arrangements
- Spaces are available on a first come, first served basis, with priority given to our Canadian Forces members and civilian DND employees.
- Parents will recieve invoices/statements twice a month.
- Payment is required for days when your child is absent due to illness, as well as for Statutory holidays.
- Attendance records are kept by the caregiver and must be dated and signed by both the parent and caregiver at the end of billing period.
- Two weeks’ notice is required in writing upon terminating a child care arrangement (or payment of the equivalent of two weeks’ fees in lieu of notice).
- A discount is available for families with more than one child when in care for same amount of hours.
