Prevention, Support & Intervention

Military life presents unique challenges to families, including frequent relocation and extended family separation. These challenges may require special attention to protect individuals and families who may be particularly vulnerable. In the category of Prevention, Support and Intervention, mandated services include education and prevention, self-help, assessment and referral and short-term intervention and crisis support. These categories are designed to be preventative in nature. They are designed to enable individuals and families to manage crises and periods of high stress while maintaining their resiliency and strength.

Programs include:

  • Short term crisis support
  • Support Groups
  • Emergency Childcare services
  • Assessment and Referral Services

Confidentiality and trust are essential components to any program. It is important to explore any confidentiality concerns/issues with the Prevention, Support and Intervention Coordinator. There are four main exceptions to confidentiality 1) potential harm to self (i.e. suicidal risk) 2) potential harm to others 3) child at risk 4) testimony in court (re: court order).

The services outlined above are available free of charge to military personnel, DND employees and their families. If you would prefer to meet with me off base an appointment can be set up to accommodate the same. Home visits can also be scheduled if you would prefer that I meet with you in your home. If there is a specific topic that you are interested in hearing a presentation on please feel free to contact me with your suggestion. If you wish to contact me about a workshop idea or about any personal matter, please contact me at my direct line 570-4529.
