MFRC Volunteer Opportunities
The volunteer program at the Trenton MFRC is meant to enhance the day-to-day functioning of the Centre and to support all the programs and services we offer. It is also meant to offer members of our community an opportunity to be involved in their MFRC, to share skills, ideas, and knowledge. Volunteering offers newcomers an opportunity to meet new friends and to get connected. There are also opportunities for students to volunteer and log hours toward the community involvement requirement for school.
If you would like information about our volunteer program or if you have ideas to share, drop in or call me at 392-2811 ext 3557.
Pre-school Programs
Playroom support - If you have a talent that you would like to share with the pre-schoolers and parents in the Playroom we'd like to chat with you. Susan is interested in involving volunteers in the Playroom to offer music, story time, crafts, or perhaps fun-fit for the pre-school group. We're open to ideas and flexible about the schedule. For more information or to volunteer, contact Wendy at loc 3557 or Susan at loc 3598.
Toy Cleaners - We have an ongoing need for volunteers to help with weekly toy cleaning in the Playroom. Toy cleaning is every Thursday afternoon from 1:00 pm to approximately 2:00 pm. Volunteers need not commit to every week but we sure wouldn't stop you if you wanted to. It is our aim to have a team of 4-6 cleaners each week.
Teen/Youth Programs
Dance Chaperones - Another on-going need. We host a Much Music Video dance monthly for the 13-17 year olds. Volunteers are needed to help chaperone, patrol the dance floor, halls and change rooms, take payment, etc. Generally volunteers are needed from 6:30 to approximately 11:00 pm. Dances for the rest of this season will be held on April 03, May 01, and June 05. Volunteers must be interviewed and screened prior to starting.
*New* Dance Chaperone - The Youth Centre will be holding dances for the 8 - 12 year olds in the Bistro at the MFRC. These dances will take place monthly on Saturdays from 6:30 - 9:30. The first one will be on March 20. Chaperone duties will be similar to those listed above. This opportunity is suitable for adults or older teens. Volunteers must be interviewed and screened prior to starting.
Youth Centre Assistance - The programs at the Youth/Teen Centre are getting pretty busy and could benefit from adult volunteer assistance for some of the activities in the evenings and on Saturday mornings. Older teens are also welcome to volunteer with programs for the youth and pre-teens and can use these volunteer hours for their school community involvement hours. The volunteer’s role is to assist the MFRC staff with the programs and activities and just generally interact with the kids at the Youth Centre. All volunteers will be screened and have a police background check.
