Parents with their children learning to swim

Jump in and discover why everyone from infants to seniors can benefit from being active in the water!

Through swim lessons, aquatic fitness classes, and other programs, PSP Aquatics offers you and your family many ways to make a splash. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced swimmer, you can gain the skills and confidence you need to stay safe and enjoy our aquatic facilities.

The primary components of the community recreation aquatic and water safety programs for military families are:

  1. Swim Lesson Program: designed to provide the aquatic and water safety skills required to function effectively and safely in, on, under or around the water.
  2. Aquatic Leadership Program: provides water safety, fitness and lifesaving instruction for persons 8 years and older. Using the Lifesaving Society aquatic leadership continuum, this program serves as the training mechanisms for lifeguards.
  3. Recreation Aquatic Activities:  designed to provide aquatic leisure activities, including but not limited to, open/family swims, length swimming, club activities and specialized aquatic programming.

Safety Tips

At the core of PSP operations is a deep commitment to ensuring all members of the community are protected and safe, that is why several trainings and safety guidelines have been added to ensure the highest standards of practice were added in the Supervision and Programming in Canadian Armed Forces Pools policy published in 2019.

The policy provides direction for the supervision and programming of CAF aquatics and water safety programs and facilities during fitness sports and recreation programming. While CFMWS acknowledges that each base and wing have specific facilities and realities, the aquatics policy should give staff a clear overview of their responsibilities and accountabilities.
